When is the best time to see the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns?
The Great Barrier Reef off Cairns can be visited all year, but the dry season from about June to October brings the clearest water, calmest seas and best visibility for snorkelling and diving.

The reef is a permanent destination, so the question is really about conditions. The dry season means less rain, better underwater visibility and more comfortable boat trips out from Cairns.
The wet season, roughly November to May, is hotter and can bring stinger (jellyfish) season inshore, when full-body suits are recommended. Coral spawning happens once a year, usually a few nights after the November full moon.
