Overview

Yangzhou is a city in central Jiangsu on the north bank of the Yangtze, bordering Nanjing to the southwest. The city has over 2,500 years of history and grew as a trading centre for salt, rice and silk.

A slim lake winds through a park just northwest of the city centre, its pavilions designed to mimic the west lake in Hangzhou. Hanlinyuan Museum is a tomb for Liu Xu, ruler of the Guangling Kingdom, five stories deep. Wenchang Pavilion, one of the few surviving historic buildings, stands in the traffic circle where Wenchang and Wenhe Roads cross. A walk along the Xiaoqinhuaihe Canal crosses the historical centre.
