Overview
The town stands on the Konar River at an average elevation of 234 metres. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, then Prime Minister, launched the plant in 1953 with help from the USA and West Germany.
Tenughat Dam, an earthfill dam 5 kilometres long and 55 metres high, crosses the Damodar River. Panch Mandir is close to the railway station. Vir Kunwar Singh Park lies close to the central market. Raza Jama Maszid is a mosque near Noori Nagar.
