Overview

The city lies on the Ramganga river, 165 km from New Delhi and 356 km north-west of Lucknow. The city stands 198 meters above sea level on the Ramganga, a Ganges tributary, and the small Gagan river also flows through it. Known as Pital Nagri, the "Brass City", it is noted for brass handicrafts exported worldwide.

Under the Green Heritage project, at least 29 trees over a hundred years old are preserved, mostly in the central Civil Lines area.
