The town is 29 kilometres southwest of the centre of New Delhi and 10 kilometres northwest of the district headquarters at Dwarka. The town takes its name from Mirza Najaf Khan, commander-in-chief of the Mughal Army under Emperor Shah Alam II, who set up a military outpost here.
