Overview
PJ, as Petaling Jaya is universally known, lies on the western edge of Kuala Lumpur in Selangor. Malaysia's first planned town, begun in 1954, had almost 640,000 inhabitants by 2010.
Gasing Hill, covering about 100 acres, is the last forest reserve left in PJ, reached by a turnoff along the road from Chetawan Temple. Kelana Jaya Lake Park, by Kelana Jaya LRT station, has 7 lakes and occupies a former mining area rehabilitated in the 1980s. Work on the Kota Darul Ehsan Arch, a marble gateway into Petaling Jaya, began in 1974 and it opened in 1981. The LDP Cable Stayed Bridge, at Persekutuan Interchange over the Federal Highway, was Malaysia's first cable-stayed land bridge. The Petaling Jaya Museum and the Thai Wat Chetawan temple stand close to Taman Jaya station on the Kelana Jaya Line.
