Overview
Shah Alam became Selangor's capital in 1978, after Kuala Lumpur was made a Federal Territory in 1974. With 18 roundabouts linking its main roads, Shah Alam is known as the city of roundabouts.
Known as the Blue Mosque for its blue dome, it has the world's largest religious dome, 51.2 m across and 106.7 m high. The mosque holds 24,000 worshippers and on a clear day can be seen from some points in Kuala Lumpur. Muzium Sultan Alam Shah, the state's biggest museum, covers Selangor's history and has miniatures of old colonial buildings. The largest state library in Selangor, Perpustakaan Tun Uda, extends three floors underground. The Selangor State Assembly Building has a towering, spaceship-like shape, with the Tugu Negri (State Monument) nearby.
