Overview

Yalvaç is a city in the Lakes District of Turkey, home to the ruins of Antioch of Pisidia on the northeast edge of town. Antioch of Pisidia was a fortified Roman hillside town at an altitude of 1000 m in 46 AD.

The ruins include the West Gate, Decumanus Maximus Street with its theatre, and Cardo Maximus with the Temple of Augustus, a Roman church and a Nymphaeum. The Temple of Men is a ruined shrine to the moon god Mēn Askaenos, unexcavated but apparently used from the 4th century BC to the 4th century AD.

Good to know

  • Antioch of Pisidia is a short walk from town, while the Temple of Men is 4 km east in a straight line but 8 km by a rough track needing 4WD.
